Today a new youth led initiative got off the ground called “Banking on a Better Future.” Launched outside the AGM of TD bank in Toronto, the campaign is asking youth to pledge to stop banking with fossil banks that are ruining the future.

They will be organizing young people across the country to end their participation with Canada’s big banks until they align their funding practices with the promise of a safe future, and respect for human rights and Indigenous Sovereignty.

The initiative includes a pledge by youth to either switch their existing bank account away from the big five banks or to not start an account with any of them.

“We are the Big 5’s current and future clients. We are future mortgage holders. We have the power to demand that these institutions do better.”
